Federal Tax Forms

The University Library will no longer be distributing copies of the federal tax forms. The IRS has decided that because so many people are filing electronically they no longer need to provide so many paper forms. Consequently they have eliminated some distribution centers among them the University Library.

The North Dartmouth Public Library indicates that they are still receiving the forms as are many other public libraries. Forms are also available on-line at

Library of Congress Call Number date facts

matrix Call numbers are the backbone of organizing and accessing information. They make the process practically effortless, compared to the alternative. Unfortunately, it’s not always as easy to categorize information as it is to access it afterwards. What if a meeting takes place and the results aren’t published until years later? Wonder no more. Portuguese-themed cable access show to be made available

Arhives and Special Collections is currently negotiating an arrangement to have 20 years worth of broadcast recordings of the local cable access program “The Portuguese Around Us” transferred to a digital format and placed on deposit in the Archives and Special Collections. When catalogued and open to researchers, it will be a valuable record of the Portuguese community from 1966 through the 1970s. (more…)

Archives releases historical booklet on New Bedford Jewish community

miller UMass Dartmouth Library Archivist Judy Farrar, in conjuction with Cindy Yoken of the Center for Jewish Culture, recently compiled a historical booklet on the Jewish Community of New Bedford. The printing of the booklet entitled “Historical Tour of Jewish New Bedford,” was funded with a grant from the United Way Greater New Bedford Community Building Mini Grant program.

Portuguese music CDs now available

Through the efforts of the Consul of Portugal in New Bedford, the UMass Dartmouth Library recently received a gift of 96 music titles to add to our growing CD collection. (more…)
