Disasters aren’t limited to hurricanes

The PhotoGraphics Department sustained two recent disasters this year. But like the residents of New Orleans, the staff have improvised, rebuilt and carried on.

The first, in January, came when a heating coil burst and flooded the working area, destroying the office and all of the electronic equipment, including the server containing all the department’s files.

In July, the new server crashed before the back up server was up and running. Fortunately, with the help of the library Systems team — Charlie McNeil and Christopher Garron — and funding from the library dean’s budget, 95% of the files were recovered. The department is still in the process of renaming those files, however, because during the recovery process, the filenames were lost.

PhotoGraphics thanks faculty, staff and students for their patience and understanding during these difficult times.
