JA Titan Business Challenge @ the CTC Library

Titan Challenge 2016On Thursday, March 16th, the Claire T. Carney Library will host area high school students competing in the Junior Achievement Titan Business Challenge. The challenge is “a day-long business strategy competition in which students compete against other high schools in teams of three using an online business simulation.” The teams are supported by volunteer Business Mentors who help guide and teach the students.

The Claire T. Carney Library Associates announces its 11th Annual Author’s Brunch to be held on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at noon in the Woodland Commons at UMass Dartmouth. This year’s brunch will feature chefs Didi Emmons, author of three cookbooks and experienced restaurateur; Mary Ann Esposito, host of the cooking show Ciao Italia with Mary Ann Esposito; and Ris Lacoste, culinary award winner.

The cost of the event is $35. Reservations are required by March 24th. Checks can be made out to the CTC Library Associates and mailed to Rita Raymond, 1032 Sterling Street, New Bedford, MA 02745. To be a sponsor for the event, a minimum of three tickets must be purchased. To be a patron, a minimum of six tickets are required and ten or more tickets are required to be a benefactor.

Position Opening: Web and Discovery Services Librarian

The librarian in this service-oriented position develops and enhances all library user interfaces. This includes the library’s website and blog as well as our Primo discovery service. The Web and Discovery Services Librarian will be part of a creative and forward-looking team and will participate in new library initiatives such as configuring and customizing the collection landing page for our digital resources and the user interfaces for journals published in the library’s instance of Open Journal Systems. This librarian will lead the library’s usability efforts and will adapt new and existing web tools to improve the library’s online platforms and interfaces. Additionally, the librarian also assists in administering core library systems such as the Alma library services platform.

Get Books & Articles from Other Libraries

It’s a quick and free online process for the active UMD community (faculty/staff/students), and we’ll try to get an electronic copy of your article (pdf) as quickly as possible. Turnaround time varies for those we can obtain, but many articles are received within 48 hours.

Do you need a book we don’t own? The same service can get you books from other libraries! Books we can obtain take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to arrive, so please plan ahead.

Need Help Finishing those Research Papers?

If you need help finding journal articles, statistics, etc., stop by the library’s reference desk or contact us online. If you need specialized help, consider contacting the librarian responsible for your major.

Finding it difficult to write that last paper or commit to its final revision? Join other like-minded students for the Writing and Reading Center’s semi-annual “Write-in”
next Monday, May 2nd, from 8p.m. to midnight in LARTS 219. Tutors will be available, and refreshments will be served. No sign-up necessary, but If you want to commit to attending as a way to make sure you won’t put off your paper-writing, sign up at arc_writingcenter@umassd.edu. All you need is paper, pen or a laptop. There will be computers available, but bring yours if convenient
