Get Books, Articles, and More from Other Libraries

The Claire T. Carney Library offers access to hundreds of thousands of publications, but sometimes it doesn’t have the article, book, or chapter you need. In these situations, our interlibrary loan (ILL) staff have you covered. They offer a free ILL service to UMassD students, faculty, and staff in which they will request items on your behalf.

Students often ask how long it takes to receive an article or book chapter. Turnaround time varies from request to request. It’s largely dependent upon the loaning institution as we need to wait for the “loaning” institution to upload the article. That said, the average turnaround is about 2 business days.

Do you need a book we don’t own? The same service can get you books from other libraries. Books can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to arrive, so please plan ahead. Please note that the interlibrary loan department cannot process requests for books sold in the campus bookstore.

On final note: It is okay to request material that you want to use for recreational reading and entertainment. You can request books by your favorite authors either using the form on the ILL page or directly from Massachusetts public libraries using a service called ComCat.

ILL/ILLiad to be unavailable Thursday morning, May 12th

ILLiad, the software used to make interlibrary loan (ILL) requests, will be unavailable for 1 to 3 hours on Thursday, May 12th starting around 9 am. This downtime is needed for the vendor to make server-side upgrades.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Library Systems department at libsys@umassd.edu and/or the Interlibrary Loan Department at libill@umassd.edu.

ComCat is Back Online – Request Material Directly from MA Libraries

We are pleased to announce that UMass Dartmouth faculty, staff and students can once again borrow material through the Commonwealth Catalog (ComCat)!

Through ComCat, you can request books, dvds, and music from hundreds of libraries statewide. Most public libraries participate as do a few universities such as UMass Dartmouth, UMass Amherst, and Bridgewater State University. The catalog is a  great place to search for popular books, dvds, and music. Make a request and it will be delivered right to UMass Dartmouth for quick pickup.

Announcing a New and Improved Interlibrary Loan!

Beginning Monday, August 24th, UMassD students, faculty, and staff can again request books, dvds, cds, and more through interlibrary loan. We paused this service in March when libraries across the country discontinued book loans due to COVID related closings.

The resumption of physical item loans coincides with the launch of a mobile friendly redesign of ILLiad, i.e., the website you use to submit ILL requests. The new site makes it easier to search your history and to resubmit, edit, and cancel requests. The redesign also includes a new form for multimedia requests.
