Abstract: In 2006, Massachusetts residents elected our first African American governor and the first Democratic governor in over 15 years – Deval Patrick. In 2007, newly inaugurated Governor Patrick announced that the projected budget deficit for FY 2008 will approach $1 billion. What does this all mean for the Commonwealth and higher education? In this brown bag lunch presentation, Prof. Shannon Jenkins (PSC) will talk about the state of the current politics in the Commonwealth, including the top issues facing the state, the barriers to addressing these issues and what impact a new governor will have.
