Appointment of Sharon Weiner as Dean of Library Services

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Sharon Weiner will be joining UMass Dartmouth as the new Dean of Library Services, effective July 16, 2007.

Ms Weiner is currently Director of the Peabody Library at Vanderbilt University. Prior to that she was Head, Reference and Education Services, at the Health Sciences Library at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo. She is currently Co-Chair of the Peabody Academic Library Leadership Institute, Co-Chair of the National Forum on Information Literacy, and Chair of the Special Libraries Association’s Education Division. Ms. Weiner is completing her EdD in Higher Education Leadership at Vanderbilt this summer. Her dissertation explores the contribution of the library to the reputation of doctoral universities, and will help inform the larger question of the role of the academic library in the changing higher education institution. She received her Master of Library Science from SUNY Buffalo. Ms. Weiner has published a book and seventeen peer-reviewed articles, as well as book chapters, successful grant proposals, and numerous conference papers.

Please join me in welcoming her to our community. Ms. Weiner comes to UMass Dartmouth with invaluable leadership experience and a strong record of accomplishment, and we are indeed fortunate to have her join us.

Regards,

Bob Green
Vice Chancellor Library Services, Information Resources and Technology (LSIRT)
