The winning essay writer will receive a $500 Award

The contest is open to all Freshmen, Sophomore, and Junior UMASS Dartmouth students

TOPIC:

What is the role of libraries in an era of misinformation and “fake news”?

The winning essay will demonstrate originality and creativity, and be reasoned and well organized. Remember that spelling and grammar count!

GUIDELINES:

All submissions to this contest should be the original work of the author.

Any quotes or citations should conform to MLA style.

Essays should be 1,000 to 1,200 words in length.

Submissions should be formatted in 12-point Times New Roman, left aligned, and double-spaced with 1” margins. Correct US English spelling conventions should be observed. Pages should be numbered. Submissions should include a cover page with title, author’s name, year of graduation, and contact information.

All essays should be submitted as an attachment in either Word or PDF format.

Celebrating Our Archival Lifelines: Tales of 6 Women:  is a collaborative work by Ada Schneider, Barbara Shore, Linda Monchik, Cindy Yoken, and Judy Yoken.

The performance is edited and directed by Linda Monchik. These oral histories are taken from interviews of leading Jewish women in New Bedford and Fall River over the past 20 years.

A bagel and nosh reception precedes the program.

    Celebrating Our Archival Lifelines: Ryan Cooper will speak about his correspondence with Otto Frank.
    At the age of 27 he forged a relationship with Otto Frank, Anne Frank’s father. In 1973 Ryan Cooper first met Otto Frank, then 84 and living in Basel Switzerland. There will be a display of their correspondence available for viewing in the Archives.
