The election is only a week away! Tomorrow at 2pm, Congressmen Joe Kennedy and Bill Keating  will be at the CTC Library as part of Congressman Kennedy’s “Your Vote, Your Voice College Tour.” Then at 4 pm, UMass Dartmouth’s own Professor Shannon Jenkins will present Run, Baby, Run:

Summary: Professor Jenkins’ ARNIE talk will explore both why it is important to have women in elected office and why so few women seek to do so. Ultimately, the research suggests that while there are many explanations for the under-representation of women in office, the most important is the fact that women are less likely to consider running for office. This talk will also explore ways that are effective in helping women overcome this reluctance, one of which is to ask women to run for office. Thus, this talk will serve a dual purpose: both informing the audience about important research AND motivating them to change current conditions.

The library will be hosting many of ThE MYSTiCAL ARTS of TiBET events scheduled from October 31st through November 4th. The events are sponsored by  Frederick Douglass Unity House; Student Activities, Involvement and Leadership; Center for Religious and Spiritual Life; Health Services, Health Education & Promotion; College of Arts and Sciences; International Student and Scholar Center; Chartwells Food Services; Offices of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Horror in the Library. Black Sunday, a classic horror film, will be shown in the Grand Reading Room of the library on Tuesday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. The film tells the story of the bloody revenge of a woman who returns from the grave after being tortured and executed as a witch. Filmed in frightening black and white!

The Information Services Librarian for Arts and Humanities delivers general and in-depth specialized reference and instruction services (virtually and face-to-face) in conjunction with a team of Information Services librarians.  A member of a long-standing liaison program, the Arts and Humanities librarian develops professional relationships with faculty and students in the College of Visual and Performing Arts and the Humanities Council of the College of Arts and Sciences in order to assess and respond to research, teaching, and learning needs.  This position serves as library liaison to the same combination of the following departments and subject areas:  Art Education, Art History, Artisanry, Design, Foreign Literatures and Languages, History, Music, and Philosophy.  Additional subject areas within the humanities and social sciences may be assigned as appropriate.  This librarian provides proactive and responsive service to faculty and students in the liaison departments, assisting them with research projects, curricular support, and course-integrated instruction in class and individually, in person and electronically.

Banned Book Week is happening now. Celebrate an  annual event that defends intellectual freedom and the right to read.  Stand up for Your Right To Read  by reading a book that has been challenged year after year by censors in schools and libraries  –  books such as Harry Potter, the Holy Bible, the Autobiography of Malcolm X and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings are available in Carney Library. Starting this Thursday, Sept. 15, we will be hosting Game Night in the Library’s Living Room from 7-10PM. We will have a selection of board games for everyone to enjoy. Perfect way to decompress and enjoy time with friends.
